VHIR offers vacancy/vacant position for Postdoctoral candidate to apply for a 3-year fellowship: Immunotherapy and Immunodiagnostic in Parkinson’s Disease. More information about our group can be found here. The Research Group of Neurodegenerative Diseases at Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) in Barcelona is focused on the study of the mechanisms of neuronal cell death in Parkinson’s diseases and other neurodegenerative diseases to: 1) identify biomarkers for the diagnosis, and 2) identify new therapeutic targets for the development for neuroprotective strategies with disease-modifying potential. The group has recently opened a new research line to study the role of the adaptive immune system in the pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease. Preliminary results of the group demonstrate that CD8+ T cell infiltration is an early event in the pathogenesis of the disease suggesting a role not only in the progression of the disease but in the onset of it. The goal of this research line is to study the mechanisms of the immunogenic neuronal death and to determine the antigens that activates it, including modified alpha-synuclein proteoforms present in Lewy bodies. The group is willing to develop presymptomatic diagnostic tools based on this adaptive immune response and a neuroprotective strategy that blocks the deleterious effect of the immune system by boosting regulatory T cells.
